About the host city - Geelong

Have you heard? Geelong has been reinvented.

Old, industrial spaces are being transformed into creative hubs, urban precincts and fabulous eateries. From the conversion of an old mill into the East Coast headquarters of Little Creatures brewing to the transformation of the Waterfront into a spectacular place to stay and play, Geelong has changed. See for yourself.

Geelong’s north facing outlook across the bay, the waterfront that’s a great place to be any time, iconic ocean beaches a short drive away and a pace of life that’s not so frantic, gives it a distinctive sense of serenity, only one hours drive from Melbourne.

Rich pickings await visitors keen to immerse themselves in the city’s history and heritage, its cultural precincts, its gardens, its high quality and wide ranging local produce, its dining and café culture, its bright, busy and extensive retail centers, and many entertainment options.

It’s also home to one of the AFL’s most successful clubs in recent years – the Geelong Cats.

Generations have enjoyed Geelong’s Waterfront. The restored carousel, art deco promenade, and swimming pavilion are big attractions for children and families. The addition of bars, hotels and restaurants, a children’s playground and a range of activities on offer, create a unique, vibrant feel to this picturesque part of town.

Geelong enthralls with its myriad of events throughout the year from sporting events, food and wine festivals, sailing and boating regattas, music festivals, cultural festivals and much more – eventsgeelong.com.au.

Geelong is also home to a burgeoning café, restaurant and brewery scene, from hot coffee spots, cosmopolitan wine bars, trendy cafes, superb restaurants and eclectic brewery establishments, the city continues to blossom.

To the north and east sit the reputable wineries and farmgates of the undulating hills of the Moorabool Valley.
